ASL:
American Sign Language; the language of the Deaf in North America -
officially recognized after 150 years! ASL is a language with its own
content, grammar, and principles. It also is a completely visual language.
American Sign Language includes the lexicon and inflections, semantics,
syntax (grammatical structures) and pragmatics including conversational
structure and rules of uses.
PAH!: an
ASL expression loosely translated to mean "Finally, we made it", "What a
breakthrough!", "Victory!", or "It's about time!"
It uses the sign for "success" made in large, high, sweeping motion (using a
lot of space beyond the normal signing space) while uttering "Pah!"
This expression/sign is credited to Fran Ripplinger, a senior citizen in
California (US).
